International Coalition of Sites of Conscience.
Mission: “We are sites, individuals, and initiatives activating the power of places of memory to engage the public in connecting past and present in order to envision and shape a more just and humane future.”
Sites of Conscience:
- interpret history through historic sites;
- engage in public programs that stimulate dialogue on pressing social issues;
- promote humanitarian and democratic values as a primary function; and
- share opportunities for public involvement in issues raised at the site.
Any memorial, museum, historic site, memory initiative, or non-governmental organization that commits to these defining operating principles and joins the International Coalition of Sites of Conscience is a Site of Conscience.
